Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his two-day state visit to Mauritius with a ceremonial
welcome in Port Louis on Tuesday (March 11, 2025).
Mr. Modi began his visit to the island nation with a sapling planting ceremony at Sir
Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical, alongside his Mauritius counterpart Navinchandra
Ramgoolam. Mr. Modi also paid homage at the concrete ‘Samadhi’ of Sir Seewoosagur
Ramgoolam, the founding father of Mauritius and at the ‘Samadhi’ of Anerood Jugnauth,
former President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. Later he met President of Mauritius
Dharam Gokhool and gifted him Gangajal from Maha Kumbh.
During Mr. Modi’s visit at the invitation of Mr. Ramgoolam, the two countries will sign
several pacts providing for cooperation in the areas of capacity building, trade and tackling
cross-border financial crimes. Mr. Modi will also attend the island nation’s national day
celebrations as the chief guest on March 12
